About This Call
ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a year-long comprehensive project by Dab Art Co. director and curator Yessíca Torres that proposes an unconventional solution to keeping contemporary art relevant during times of global crisis. The project will include an online exhibition (opening March 23 and updated daily until December 31), weekly YouTube videos featuring selected works and artists, a full color publication of all selected works, a multi-gallery international exhibition, and a documentary film that will be screened in Los Angeles.
The project consists of three phases. Phase 1 features an ongoing online exhibition of art relevant to the current global crisis, with artists and artworks reviewed and added daily. Selected works will be featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY, which receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly. Weekly YouTube videos will highlight selections, artist interviews, guest jurors, and project updates. Phase 2 includes publication of a full color 8.5x11 inch art book in February 2021 featuring all selected works, artist interviews, juror commentary, and curator notes. The publication will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists will receive additional features in the publication and hardback copies. Phase 3 features a multi-gallery 8-week exhibition simultaneously in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Mexico City beginning in March 2021, with a documentary film screening in Los Angeles in April 2021.
Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images). Submissions should include at least 3 images, biography, and artist statement. All selected work must remain available for sale for the duration of the project. For gallery exhibitions, all work must be original, unsold, and the artist must own sole copyright. 2D artwork must be ready to hang with professional quality frames, mats, and wiring. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance. The gallery retains a 50% commission on all exhibition sales in gallery and online. Notifications are sent via email monthly, with gallery exhibition notifications by January 31, 2021.
