About This Call

ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA™ is a year-long comprehensive project by Dab Art Co. director and curator Yessíca Torres that proposes an unconventional solution to keeping contemporary art relevant during times of global crisis. The project will include an online exhibition (opening March 23 and updated daily until December 31), weekly YouTube videos featuring selected works and artists, a full color publication of all selected works, a multi-gallery international exhibition, and a documentary film that will be screened in Los Angeles.

Phase 1 consists of an ongoing online exhibition curated daily of art relevant to the current global crisis. Artists and artworks will be reviewed, juried and added each day as entries come in. All selected artists and artwork will be featured on the Dab Art Co. website and ARTSY, an international sales platform that receives 2.2 million+ unique visitors monthly. Weekly YouTube videos will highlight selections, feature artist interviews, guest jurors and project updates. Phase 2 includes publication of a full color art book in February 2021 that will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. Ten artists from the online show will receive additional features in the publication and a hardback copy. Phase 3 consists of a multi-gallery 8-week exhibition simultaneously in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Mexico City, beginning March 2021, with a documentary film screening in April 2021 in Los Angeles.

Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media and new genres. Entry fee is $35 for 3 images; additional images cost $5 each (maximum 20 images). Artists may submit more than once. All work selected online must remain available for sale for the entirety of the project. Gallery exhibition work must be original, unsold, with the artist owning sole copyright. Frames, mats and wiring must be professional quality. 2D artwork must be ready to hang. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance. Gallery retains 50% commission on all exhibition sales.
