About This Call
Logan City is seeking submissions from artists and artist teams to create site-specific murals in two local parks: Merlin Olsen Park (Site 1) and the Soccer Park Complex (Site 2). The Art in the Park program is designed to meet the goals of the Logan City Public Arts Master Plan, which identifies a diverse and accessible art program as a core value. The program targets parks in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and seeks to commission art that will activate park spaces and connect with the activities and communities that utilize them.
Pre-selected surfaces and locations have been identified for each site. Logan City hopes to select at least one project for each site. Formats that may be considered include painting, mosaic, collage, mixed media, augmented reality, and other formats. The total contract amount for all applicable expenses, including consulting, design, execution, transportation, site preparation, and installation, shall not exceed $10,000.
Artists and artist teams will be selected based on artistic excellence, demonstration of skill and quality craftsmanship, and the strength and originality of concept. The selection committee consists of members of the Logan City Public Art Advisory Board and other members as established by the board. Semi-finalists will be invited to submit a full proposal. The Logan City Mayor and Municipal Council give final project approval. Upon selection and final design approval, the artist or team must complete a contract with the City of Logan, and all finished work must be faithful to the approved drawings, design, and concept.
Applications must include a Vision Statement (maximum 2000 characters) describing the artist's interest and ideas for the project and identifying which site the artist is interested in, digital images of similar public art projects (no more than 10), a current resume outlining professional accomplishments, and three references with names, professional titles, phone numbers, and email addresses. Semi-finalists will be required to submit a design proposal including project concept, site, materials, scale/dimension, timeline, budget, and one to four images or renderings of proposed work.
This call is open to all artists, but preference will be given to artists and artist teams including regional artists residing within 500 miles of Logan. Artists and artist team members must be at least 18 years of age and legally residing and authorized to work in the United States. Preference will be given to artists and artist teams that include Latinx members for proposals for the Soccer Park Complex (Site 2).
