About This Call

Art in the Park 2015 is a juried exhibition open to sculptors 18 years or older producing large-scale sculptures suitable for long-term outdoor and public exposure. The exhibition will be judged by Susan Cross (curator of visual arts at MASS MoCA), Amy Podmore (Professor and Sculptor at Williams College), and Steven Siegel (Sculptor & Environmental Artist, New York).

The exhibition takes place in Elm Park, a five-acre National Registry public park in Worcester, Massachusetts, featuring interconnected Mere Ponds and arched bridges. Selected artists will receive a $700 stipend to install and exhibit their work. Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, and removing their works, with at least two volunteers provided by Art in the Park for assistance. Heavy-duty machinery will be available on a limited scheduled basis. Artists are encouraged to offer work for sale, with 30% of the sale price payable to Art in the Park. Selected artists are expected to attend the opening ceremony on June 15th. Additional opportunities exist for artists to have work displayed at educational and medical institutions in Worcester for six months to a year, with an optional $300 honorarium for presenting a workshop.

Submissions must include 3-6 images of sculptures produced within the past four years. Entry fee is $20. All applications and materials must be received by January 15, 2015. Sculptures must be large-scale, heavy, and able to be well anchored to a base platform, into the earth, or suspended from trees. All media must be suitable for outdoor installation and extended weather exposure. Works selected for exhibition will be insured by Art in the Park for 70% of stated retail value while installed in Elm Park. Installation dates are June 9 & 11, 2015, with removal on October 13 & 15, 2015. Artists will be notified of acceptance on March 10, 2015, with artist acceptance deadline of March 19, 2015.
