Art in the Beartooths Exhibition and Auction

The Carbon County Arts Guild & Depot Gallery invites participation in the annual Art in the Beartooths Exhibition and Auction. This juried invitational event is open to members of the Guild and invited artists. Selected work will be on view at the Carbon County Arts Guild in Red Lodge, Montana, with in-person viewing available following COVID-19 health guidelines. All bidding takes place online through the Handbid auction website via mobile phone app, tablet, or computer.

Artists may submit up to two entries for jurying. Work must be original, made by the artist, executed within the last five years, and be the actual work for the show. Acceptable mediums include paintings, mixed media, drawings, ceramics, fine woodwork, textiles, traditional photographs, jewelry, and sculpture. Computer-generated artwork, prints (including giclees), and crafts are not allowed. Work submitted to past auctions is not permitted. Two-dimensional pieces may not exceed 48 inches on any side including the frame; three-dimensional works may not exceed 2 feet by 2 feet by 3 feet or weigh over 50 pounds. Submissions must include high-quality images (JPEG or JREG format, 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, sRGB color profile) and an artist statement of 1,000 characters or less.

Upon acceptance, artists may ship or hand-deliver work. The artist is responsible for all delivery, return packing, insurance, and shipping costs. All 2D art must have a secure wire in the back and be ready to hang; all 3D art must have proper supports and hanging devices. As a fund-raiser, artists choose to contribute either 50% or 100% of the auction sale price to the Carbon County Arts Guild. Artists may set a retail value and reserve price for their work. Important dates: submissions due May 26, 2021; artists notified by email May 27 or soon thereafter; art must be received by June 24; exhibition opens July 1; auction opens July 10 at 5:30 p.m.; exhibition closes and bidding stops July 26 at 7:30 p.m.; unsold art ready for pickup July 27.
