About This Call

The Art in Public Places program enriches New Mexico's public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. Over 2,200 works of art have been placed in public spaces across New Mexico. Through a fair and open public process, committees made up of local and regional representatives work with New Mexico Arts staff to select artwork for their communities.

Santa Fe Community College is seeking artists or artist teams to create public artwork for campus locations including exterior spaces beginning at the main campus entry, continuing diagonally across the main courtyard and culminating at the new Health Sciences Building. The Local Selection Committee anticipates the artwork will be highly interactive, instructive, thought provoking, pleasant, fascinating and connected to the core values of this community-based institution. Artists using innovative concepts and materials that could be incorporated into the curriculum are encouraged to apply. Artwork must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, suitable for outdoor display, safe for both children and adults and be ADA compliant. The site must remain accessible during campus events with no physical obstruction in the center of the courtyard or in breezeways.

This project is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of New Mexico. Artists should be experienced in creating public funded commission projects of a similar scope. Qualifications submitted by faculty and staff of Santa Fe Community College will not be considered. $84,250 is available for this project, including all fees and expenses. Up to five finalists will be invited to submit a formal proposal and will receive a $1,000 honorarium plus a travel stipend. Submission deadline: February 25, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submissions must include a letter of interest, current resume, annotated image list, and ten images of previously completed work. Contact Ben Owen, AIPP Project Coordinator, at [email protected] or 505-827-6490.
