Art in Public Buildings RFQ: WY State Hospital and WY Life Resource Center

Request for Qualifications for artwork at two new Wyoming facilities. Submissions are due August 31, 2018 via CaFÉ. Artists should submit required documents and images demonstrating their interest and expertise. The selection committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the specific project, experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers, and ability to address the special considerations of these facilities including their unique clientele and health and safety needs.

The Wyoming State Hospital provides acute short-term psychiatric services to people in crisis situations. The new design focuses on creating a safe and secure therapeutic environment with outside courtyards, large windows, and internal features providing a calming environment. The Wyoming Life Resource Center provides intermediate and long-term services to people with intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, and high medical needs. The new center includes ten Green House cottages, a therapy building with pool and gymnasium, and day program buildings. Both facilities are scheduled to open in late 2020.

Artwork opportunities exist inside and outside both facilities. All styles, genres, conceptual approaches, and mediums will be considered. Artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site appropriate, and easy to maintain. Artists must consider various audiences and balance public and private sections. Artwork should complement established color palettes based on Wyoming landscapes and wayfinding designs based on Wyoming attributes such as bison and Indian Paintbrush. The total project budget available for artwork is up to $90,000, which may be allocated among multiple artists and locations. Artists may submit work for consideration at one or both facilities. Select artists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references. Final selections will be made by November 2018.
