Art in Public Buildings RFQ: Western Wyoming Community College Health Sciences Project

The Western Wyoming Community College Health Sciences Addition and Renovations project is seeking artwork for multiple locations: an exterior plaza visible from the facility parking lot, and interior spaces including a portion of the lobby wall and/or a ceiling-hung piece in the combined lobby/study area. The selection committee is interested in works that engage well with the physical location, the Wyoming setting, and can be either two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Proposed themes include community, healing, growth, dynamic movement, confluence, collaboration, and connection. Less traditional materials are of particular interest, though all media are welcome. Artwork should not conflict with project materials; finish boards will be provided to finalists.

The total project budget for artwork, installation, and artist stipend is $51,106.14. The selection committee will review submissions in August 2025 and invite selected artists to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and renderings. Proposals must include costs for additional lighting, signage, structural support, design fees, materials, fabrication labor, and all planning and installation expenses. If selected as a finalist, artists may be invited to in-person or video presentations in late September or early October 2025, with modest financial compensation provided. Construction is currently 30% complete with occupancy planned for fall 2026; a specific fabrication and installation timeline will be established upon finalist selection.

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents, at least 18 years old, and full-time residents of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, or Wyoming. Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating previous experience, a cover letter addressing the project, and evidence of ability to work with public art processes and project stakeholders. Selected applicants must be willing to travel for presentations and sign a contract with the State of Wyoming. Final artwork becomes property of the Wyoming State Museum; artists retain copyright but grant the State of Wyoming permission to use images for publicity purposes. Submissions are due August 31, 2025.
