About This Call
Request for Qualifications for public art in the new Science Initiative Building at the University of Wyoming. Submissions are due February 25, 2019 via CaFÉ. Artists should submit required documents and images demonstrating their interest and expertise. The committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the project, and experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers. Selected artists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references.
The Science Initiative Building is a 168,000 square foot, 5-story structure on the northwest corner of campus, scheduled for completion in 2021. The interior features a neutral, clean, high-tech palette with glass elements and digital displays. The exterior uses traditional sandstone to match campus architecture. The building will house the Center for Advanced Scientific Imaging, the Center for Integrative Biological Research, and Active Learning Classrooms for core science courses. The committee seeks artwork for both interior and exterior spaces that encompasses themes of education, participatory education, and active learning. Themes may include Wyoming as laboratory, education as partnership, research as a platform for learning, and life sciences at multiple scales. All styles, genres, and mediums are considered, including digital work. Artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site-appropriate, and easy to maintain.
Total project budget is $90,000, which may be allocated for multiple artists or locations. The selection committee will review submissions in March 2019, with final decisions by May 2019. Finalists may be asked to participate in in-person or video presentations with modest financial compensation. For questions, contact Rachel Clifton at the Wyoming Arts Council, 307-777-5305 or [email protected].
