About This Call
Request for Qualifications for public art at the University of Wyoming's new Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) in Laramie. Submissions are due November 15, 2019 via CaFÉ. Artists should submit required documents and images demonstrating their interest and expertise. The committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the project, and experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers.
The four-story EERB is a research facility with classroom space located on the northwest side of campus. It features open center areas with clear sight lines, industrial elements including glass, metal, and cables, and limited wood accents. The building houses multiple laboratories and collaboration spaces, with a central town hall area between the first and second floors. Potential artwork locations include both entryways, common areas, the central atrium, and an exterior location off the Lewis Street entrance. The committee is interested in monumental, sculptural, or relief work rather than 2D work, and will consider one or multiple pieces by one or multiple artists. All styles, mediums, and conceptual approaches are welcome. Artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site-appropriate, and easy to maintain.
The total project budget is $90,000, which may be allocated for multiple artists or locations. Selected finalists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references. Design proposals must detail lighting needs, signage, structural support plans, design fees, material costs, labor, and all costs for planning, delivery, and installation. The selection committee will review submissions in November 2019, with final decisions made by April 2020. A specific development and installation timeline will be established upon selection. In-person or video presentations may be required, with modest financial compensation provided for final proposals and presentations. For more information, contact Rachel Clifton at the Wyoming Arts Council, 307-256-0500 or [email protected].
