Art in Public Buildings RFQ: Skilled Nursing Facility

Request for Qualifications for exterior artwork at the Veteran's Home of Wyoming Skilled Nursing Facility in Buffalo, Wyoming. Submissions are due July 17, 2020 via CaFÉ. Artists should submit required documents and images demonstrating their interest and expertise. The committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the project, and experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers.

The facility consists of three residential cottages housing 12 residents each, designed with a homelike farmhouse aesthetic on the historic Fort McKinney site in the Big Horn Mountains foothills. The committee seeks exterior artwork including sculpture or functional art such as signage, benches, bike racks, integrated lighting, or work integrated into railings or fencing. Opportunities also exist for stamped concrete or artwork integrated into sidewalks or pathways. Artwork should encompass Wyoming themes and motifs including wildlife, the Buffalo area, mountains, or Western imagery, and may incorporate the history of Fort McKinney or military themes. All artwork must be ADA accessible, durable, structurally sound, secure, site appropriate, and easy to maintain. The total project budget available is $41,212.00, which may be allocated for multiple artists or locations.

Select artists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references. Proposals must include lighting needs, signage, foundation or structural support plans, design fees, material costs, labor for fabrication and installation, and all costs for planning, completion, delivery, and installation. The selection committee will review submissions in July 2020, with final decisions made by September 2020. The facility is scheduled for substantial completion in early 2022. Modest financial compensation will be provided for final design proposals and in-person presentations if required.
