About This Call
Request for Qualifications for artwork at Sheridan College's new Technical Education Center, scheduled to open in August 2018. The selection committee has identified several possible locations for artwork both inside and outside the building. Submissions are due July 13, 2018 via CaFÉ and must include required documents and images demonstrating interest and expertise. The committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the project, and experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers.
The Technical Education Center houses four programs: Machine Tool, Construction Technology, Welding, and Diesel Mechanics. Possible artwork locations include grassy courtyard areas outside the main northern and western entrances suitable for outdoor sculpture, with kinetic or interactive pieces encouraged. Interior spaces include hallways and student common areas available for 2D work, with wall-mounted relief sculptures of particular interest. The selection committee is interested in themes and subject matter reflecting the programs and the building's industrial architectural approach. All styles, conceptual approaches, and mediums are encouraged, with interest in a blend of traditional, contemporary, and abstract work.
Up to $58,500 is available for artwork, which may be allocated for multiple artists and locations. Select artists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references. Proposals must detail lighting needs, signage, structural support plans, design fees, material costs, labor, and all costs for planning, completion, delivery, and installation. The selection committee will review submissions in mid-July, with final decisions made in September 2018. In-person presentations may take place in Sheridan with modest financial compensation provided; all other travel is the artist's responsibility. For questions, contact Rachel Clifton, Wyoming Arts Council, 307-777-5305, [email protected].
