About This Call
The Wyoming Arts Council seeks an artist to create artwork for a screen wall on the north side of Sheridan College's new Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Sciences Center. The facility, located in northern Wyoming at the base of the Bighorn Mountains, will house advanced manufacturing and construction trades programs. The screen wall is 16 feet tall x 100 feet long on the north side and 30 feet long on the west side, forming an L-shaped, two-sided structure visible from I-90. The wall screens mechanical, electrical, and egress staircase elements.
The committee is interested in painted or integrated murals, or other work attached to the existing surface. Artists may also propose alternative designs or materials for the screen wall. The committee prefers geometric or stylized work over narrative or figurative pieces, and encourages work using materials or methods taught in the building, such as steel or metal with laser or water cutting. Colorful work that makes the building more inviting to students and visitors is desired. Either flat or perforated panels are being considered and would be provided to the selected artist.
The total project budget is $49,100.00. Selected artists will be invited to submit a complete formal design proposal including budget, timeline, and references. Artwork must be fabricated and installed by June 30, 2024. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents, at least 18 years old, demonstrate previous public art experience, meet project deadlines, work collaboratively with project managers, and be willing to travel for presentations if selected as a finalist. Final artwork becomes the property of the Wyoming State Museum, though artists retain copyright.
