About This Call
The Wyoming Arts Council seeks ceiling-mounted artwork for the commons area of Sheridan College's new Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Sciences Center in Sheridan, Wyoming. The ceiling space is approximately 30 feet long by 18 feet wide and will be suspended from a metal deck with concrete and steel bar-joist support.
The committee is seeking geometric or stylized work that is less narrative or figurative. Work utilizing materials or methods taught in the building is encouraged, including steel, metal, carbon fiber, alloys, engineered wood products, dimensional lumber, timbers, plastics, or acrylics. Laser or water cutting techniques are welcome. The committee prefers colorful work that makes the building more inviting for students and visitors. The total project budget available is $49,100.00.
Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship or legal residency and a minimum age of 18 years. Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating previous experience, a cover letter addressing the project, and 1-10 images or up to 3 videos. The selection committee will review submissions in September 2023 and invite finalists to submit complete formal design proposals including budgets, timelines, and references. Finalists may be required to participate in video presentations; travel is the artist's responsibility. The selected artist must coordinate lighting, fire suppression, and mechanical ductwork above the artwork and complete fabrication and installation by June 30, 2024. Final artwork becomes the property of the Wyoming State Museum, though artists retain copyright.
