About This Call
Art in Motion: Exploring Movement in Art seeks to explore diverse forms of movement in art. In its purest form, movement in art refers to the path that a viewer's eyes follow through a piece. Artists use movement to guide the viewer's gaze toward focal points, using lines, edges, shapes, and colors within and beyond the artwork. Movement can push boundaries or create more defined ones.
The exhibition runs October 18 through November 15, 2023, at Art League RI Gallery, 80 Fountain Street, Suite 107A, Pawtucket, RI 02860. An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Awards include 1st Prize $500, 2nd Prize $400, and 3rd Prize $200. The juror is Hannah Subotnick, a multidisciplinary artist working in film, animation, photography, dance, sound, textiles, and installation.
Eligibility is open to any artist 18 years or older. All 2D and 3D media are eligible. Entry fee is $35 for the first piece and $10 for each additional piece (up to 3 pieces total). Media fee is $10. Art League RI members pay $20 for the first piece and $10 for each additional piece. Work samples may include up to 3 images, 3 audio files, and/or 3 video files (minimum 1 sample required). Maximum artwork size is 40" wide by 60" high including frame. 3D work must have an overall footprint of 40" x 60" or less with a weight limit of 100 lbs. All work must be original, exhibition-ready, and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Artwork previously exhibited with ALRI is not permitted. Entry deadline is September 15, 2023. Notification of acceptance will be sent on or before September 29, 2023. In-person drop-off is available October 13-14, 2023, from 12:00 to 5:00 pm by appointment only. Shipped artwork must be received by October 11, 2023. A return shipping label must be included with shipped work. Participating artists may pick up their work November 17-18, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm by appointment. Contact [email protected] to schedule drop-off or pickup appointments.
