About This Call
Art for Ransom is a one-evening fundraising event organized by and benefiting Arts Street and RedLine, two community-focused arts nonprofits. Artwork in the exhibit will be concealed from view until event goers collectively pay its ransom. Artists are not being asked to donate their work to this fundraiser, only to let the work be hung, covered, and then shown when a certain donation is achieved.
The event takes place at RedLine, located at 2350 Arapahoe, Denver. Evan Siegel, Artist/Architect, is coordinating the exhibit design. The event will be emceed by Adam Lerner, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Erin Trapp, Director of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. The curatorial team includes Shannon Corrigan (Emmanuel Gallery, Auraria Campus), Bobbie Walker (Walker Fine Art), and Phil Bender (Pirate Gallery). Entries will be juried for their appropriateness to the venue and fundraising event.
This call is open to Denver, Colorado and/or local regional artists. Selected artists must be able to drop off and pick up artwork; shipping and handling is not provided. Artists are encouraged to submit all types of visual work: 2-D (maximum 40" width x 84" height) or 3-D (maximum 72" in any direction, no more than 150 lbs). Submissions should include a full-scope photograph (not a detail) of the work, media, materials, dimensions, and retail price. A brief statement may be required for each accepted piece to entice donors to ransom the work. Entry deadline is August 20, 2009. No entry fee is mandatory, but organizers are suggesting a $10 donation per entry. Details of the ransom structure, delivery, installation, and artwork retrieval times will be provided with the notice of acceptance.
