About This Call

The City of Florence invites emerging, mid-career, and established artists to submit work to Art Exposed, a rotating outdoor art gallery. Artwork will be displayed throughout Florence's Old Town district for a two-year period starting in Spring 2020. The Public Art Committee believes this program generates community pride and connectivity, provides artists creative outlets with high visibility, and benefits citizens with quality public art while encouraging economic development and tourism.

Five locations have been selected along Bay Street in Old Town, a high visibility/high traffic area. Artists may submit work for all locations if desired. The $25 entry fee per artist covers submission costs. Selected artwork will be installed in May 2020 and must be available for sale to the public. Each artist receives a $1,000 stipend for installation. The City of Florence provides bases for the art and may assist with installation. Artists must transport artwork to Florence and work with the City regarding installation. The City collects a 30% commission on any art sold. If artwork is purchased before the two-year period ends, the artist has first opportunity to replace it with a suitable piece approved by the Public Art Committee.

All artwork must be original design and suitable for viewing by all ages. Artists must be 18 years or older. Artwork can be any medium but should withstand coastal conditions and resist theft and vandalism. Maximum weight is 1,000 pounds (500 pounds for Rain Garden location). Artwork must not exceed specific height and width requirements per location and must include a 36" diameter plate with four 1-inch diameter bolt holes for attachment. Designs must not include intellectual property breaches, trademarks, corporate branding, or drug images. Artwork cannot be used for advertisement or to promote a business, product, or viewpoint. Submit 4-20 images of the specific work being entered. Submission deadline is Friday, January 24, 2020, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time.
