About This Call
The City of Florence invites emerging, mid-career, and established artists to submit work for Art Exposed: A Rotating Outdoor Art Gallery, a program that displays art throughout the Historic Old Town district for a two-year period. Florence's Old Town hosts over one million visitors annually and features popular restaurants, galleries, and shops along the Siuslaw River. The Art Exposed program generates community pride, provides artists with high-visibility display opportunities, stimulates conversations about art, and promotes Florence as a public art destination.
The City of Florence's Public Arts Committee, a volunteer group of local artists, business owners, and arts supporters established in 2015, has placed dozens of art pieces including a large-scale mural and four rounds of Art Exposed. In this 2025-2027 call, the Committee seeks art for eight locations in Historic Old Town, each with specific dimensions and requirements. Artists are offered a $1,500 stipend to provide their work for a maximum of two years. During this period, art will be available for sale, with the City of Florence retaining 30% of sale proceeds to support the Public Arts Program. Artists may replace sold pieces with new work during the two-year timeframe.
Eligibility: International artists, 18 years and older. Entry fee: $25 per submission. Artists may submit one entry per location (up to 8 submissions). All artwork must be original design, suitable for all ages, and available for two years from installation. Artists are responsible for transportation costs to Florence. The City provides installation bases and Public Works support. Installation is scheduled for February 2025. Application deadline: October 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. MST. Detailed location information and dimension requirements are available on the City of Florence website.
