About This Call
The City of Florence and the City's Public Art Committee are pleased to announce plans to create and install several high impact art projects in five locations along Bay Street in Old Town Florence. Art Exposed is a program to enhance the beauty and livability of the community by regularly introducing original outdoor art to create a unique sense of place and enhance community identity. The program provides artists a creative outlet with high visibility, an opportunity to sell their work, and a stipend while their work is displayed.
Artists are encouraged to submit unique pieces that demonstrate extraordinary creativity. All artists over 18 years old are eligible. Entries must be original designs suitable for viewing by all ages. There is a $25 entry fee per artist. Selected artwork is scheduled to be installed the week of April 23rd, 2018, for a two-year period. Each artist will receive a $500 stipend for installation. The City of Florence will collect a 30% commission on any art sold. Should art be purchased prior to the end of the two-year period, the artist shall be given first opportunity to replace it with a suitable piece approved by the Public Art Committee.
Artwork can be of any medium but must withstand coastal conditions and resist theft, vandalism, and excessive maintenance. Artwork must not exceed 1,000 pounds in total weight, except for the Rain Garden location which cannot exceed 500 pounds. All artwork must include a 36" diameter plate on the bottom with four 1 inch diameter bolt holes to accommodate 3/4 inch bolts on 22 inch spacing. Height and width restrictions vary by location. Artists must submit 4-20 images of their work and specify which location(s) they are submitting for. The submission deadline is Sunday, February 25th, 2018. Finalists will be selected by the Public Art Committee during the week of March 19th, 2018.
