Art Dash Public Running Sculpture

The Anacortes Arts Festival in coordination with the Anacortes Parks & Recreation invites artists to submit proposals for a piece of public artwork to be placed along a public rails-to-trails parkway and a busy roadway. This commission is funded by an annual run, and designs should relate to running. The organization is open to representational or abstract work, of any materials that will withstand an outdoor marine environment. The piece should make a visual statement for both motorists and pedestrians.

Applicants should include 3-8 samples of relevant work and a basic design concept for the piece, including material, size and price. Existing work is acceptable. Upon initial selection, the artist may be asked to provide a more detailed design proposal. The completion and installation dates will be determined by the scope of the work, to be finalized prior to award of the commission. Proposals from teams of artists are accepted, but one artist must act as applicant and contact.

The budget for this sculpture is $12,000, including labor and materials. Installation costs may be negotiable, depending on the scope of the work. Installation will be coordinated with the City of Anacortes. A jury including representatives from the Anacortes Arts Festival, the City of Anacortes and the public will choose the winning design. The jury reserves the right to not select any of the submitted proposals, or to request more detail of designs they are interested in. Entry fee is $10.00.
