About This Call
ArtCenter houses 38 partially-subsidized workspaces for visual artists working in most mediums. Studios range from 175 to 900 square feet, with monthly rents averaging $280-600 based on $9.00 per square foot annually, plus common area fees, energy surcharges, and 7% sales tax. Residents have access to a darkroom, print lab, common workspace, Wi-Fi, and 24-hour building access. The residency program offers 6 months to 2 years in residence, participation in monthly Studio Crawls, exhibition opportunities in window exhibition spaces, and potential teaching opportunities within ArtCenter's Art Studies programs for artists with previous teaching experience. Residents become part of the ArtCenter Alumni Network and work alongside up to 41 ArtCenter artists including visiting artists.
Eligibility is open to working, professional artists with deep commitment to their practice, including artists based in the US and abroad. Artists must not be currently enrolled in an academic program. Alumni artists may apply, though priority is given to artists who have never had a studio residency previously at ArtCenter. Selection is based on merit of past work, readiness to engage with and benefit from the program, and potential to develop an innovative creative practice and impact the community.
Applications are reviewed by ArtCenter staff for completion and eligibility, then evaluated by a 5-member Artist Review Committee of knowledgeable artists and art professionals. Finalists are invited for a 30-minute interview (in-person, phone, or videoconference) to determine final selections. Application deadlines occur three times per year: September 30, January 31, and May 31. The $40 application fee is required. Applicants must submit 8-10 images of recent work, though video or audio formats are available upon request by contacting the office at 305-674-8278 or [email protected].
