About This Call
REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS: Art at the Wallace and Hill Road Roundabout
The McMinnville Downtown Association Committee for Public Art (MDACPA) in collaboration with the City of McMinnville is seeking qualifications from professional artists or artist teams for a public art installation at the intersection of Wallace and Hill Roads. The roundabout is presently under construction and expected to be completed in fall 2018. A total budget of $29,000 has been established for this project, including all artist fees, materials, insurance, delivery to site, travel, fabrication, and periodic communications with the Steering Committee. The art is intended to be a permanent installation to enhance the experiences of drivers and pedestrians using both roads and sidewalks.
The proposed piece must fit within a 12-foot diameter concrete pad in the center of the roundabout. There are no firm height restrictions. Artists/teams must be available for an interview between October 15 and November 15, 2018, and selected artists must be available for project development, coordination, and installation from winter 2018 to spring 2019. Each finalist will receive an honorarium of $500 for preparation of interview materials and travel. The City can provide a boom truck and crew to assist with sculpture placement if desired. Installation should occur on a single date if possible to minimize traffic disruption.
Applications must include: an artist's statement (not exceeding three pages) addressing a conceptual approach and proposed budget estimate; visual documentation of past work (up to 10 images in digital format) labeled with title, dimensions, site installed, year created, and artist's name; a current resume (PDF, not exceeding three pages) for each artist; and contact information with two professional references. Submission of existing work is acceptable. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2018. Selection criteria include successful completion of similar creative projects, mastery in artistic mediums suitable for exterior installation, strong communication and organizational skills, creative cost-effective solutions, and proven ability to work within budget and meet deadlines.
