About This Call
This juried exhibition of original, hand-pulled prints is open to artists who can hand-deliver work on August 17, 2018, between 10 am-12 noon and pick up on October 25, 2018, between 10 am-12 noon. The exhibition runs August 19 - October 24, 2018 at the Jewish Community Center, 524 Chapala Street, Santa Barbara. Entry fee is $37.00. Submit 1-3 images of work samples.
Accepted print mediums include silkscreen, linocut, woodcut, lithograph, etching, collagraph, monotype, monoprint, photo polymer etching, and these techniques combined with photochemical or digital printing, chine collé, transfer images, and hand coloring with translucent media. Nude studies and violent images are not appropriate for this venue. All artwork must be presented professionally and ready for display, wired for hanging (no saw tooth hangers), with well-assembled frames in good condition. Mats should be neutral colors (white or cream) with a minimum of 2" width around the image and no foxing. Glass and mats should be clean.
The juror is Stephanie Dotson, associate professor of printmaking at Santa Barbara City College. Prizes include First Place $400, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, and two Awards of Excellence $50 each. Notification of invited artists occurs August 1. The opening reception is August 19, 2:00-4:30 p.m., featuring live music, a juror talk and awards presentation, and a DVD showing. Invited artists may bring unframed prints for sale during the reception (prints must be in protective sleeves with hardboard backing; artists must provide their own display rack). The Jewish Community Center handles sales and takes 25% commission. Contact Sara Woodburn at 805-563-9668 or [email protected] with questions.
