Art as Refuge

O'Hanlon Center for the Arts invites artists to submit work that embodies the spirit of refuge—art that evokes peace, healing, and renewal. This juried online exhibition is open to international artists ages 16 and older. The juror is Sergio Gomez, known for his large-scale figurative abstraction paintings and charcoal drawings. His work has been featured in over 45 solo exhibitions across the United States and museums in Romania, Italy, Mexico, and Vienna. He has curated over 100 exhibitions and currently serves as Director of Exhibitions at Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago.

Artists may submit up to 3 individual pieces of artwork. All media are welcome except video, including photography, fiber, sculpture, and digital work. Diptychs and triptychs are considered 1 piece and must be submitted as one image. Image requirements: JPEG or JPG only, 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, sRGB color profile. Entry fee is $30 for non-members, $25 for O'Hanlon members (coupon code OH25). Financial assistance is available; email the office to inquire. Works previously shown at O'Hanlon Gallery in-house or online are not eligible.

Deadline for submission is Monday, April 21 at 11 p.m. Pacific Time. Artists will be notified of selections on April 29 by 5 p.m. Pacific Time via email. Online show dates: May 7 - July 31, 2025. A Zoom roundtable with the juror will be held Tuesday, May 13 at 4 p.m. Pacific Time, open to all. Work does not need to be for sale.
