Art Around Town 2018-2019

The Town of Carbondale Public Art Commission is seeking fifteen (15) outdoor street sculptures for its annual rotating "Art Around Town" public art program. Sculptures will be located throughout Carbondale, with several locations on Main Street, the library, and along the Rio Grande Trail. The annual show begins Thursday, May 30, 2019, with a public reception and artist reception for newly selected artists.

Selected artists will receive a $750 honorarium, with the sculpture voted "Best-In-Show" receiving an additional $1,000 bonus. All selected sculptures will be mounted on marble bases donated by Colorado Stone Quarries in Marble, CO. Submitted entries must be completed work. Artists must provide detailed descriptions of sculpture materials, durability for outdoor year-round conditions, and installation requirements. Installation requirements must include weight, dimensions (height and width), base dimensions, and any electrical components. Sculptures must be freestanding but attachable to marble pedestals, steel bases, or mounting plates provided by the Commission. Sculptures must be safe for pedestrians, of appropriate scale for street display, able to withstand high winds and temperature changes, and easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment.

Interested artists must submit two high-resolution views of one image marked "Proposal Image" showing the piece being submitted for display. Submit separate applications for additional proposed pieces. Provide contact information including phone, email, mailing address, and current location of the proposed sculpture. Selected artists will be required to sign a contract with the Town of Carbondale identifying liability requirements, installation and de-installation requirements, and information related to the sculpture being on location for one year. Each artist must attend installation or have an artist representative attend on their behalf. Deadline for entries is January 9, 2019.
