About This Call
Art Around the Corner: Celebrating 20 Years of Public Art
The Art Around the Corner (AAC) Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts, enriching the community, and bringing fine art to Southern Utah in partnership with the City of St. George. In 2024, AAC will celebrate 20 years of operation. Throughout this time, the organization has recruited world-class, professional artists to participate in a unique "art on loan" program. Each year AAC solicits, selects, and installs approximately 25-30 new pieces of 3D public art in its outdoor galleries located in St. George. Nationally renowned artists lend their works to Art Around the Corner (free of charge) for one year, and all sculptures are offered for sale or lease to public and private collectors. A large number of displayed sculptures are sold each year (more than $1,000,000 in sales to date), including sculptures purchased by the City of St. George and St. George Regional Hospital for their permanent collections. The main sculpture gallery is located in Historic Downtown St. George, with additional displays at St. George Regional Hospital.
The Art Around the Corner Foundation seeks original artwork that is visually engaging and encourages an element of interactivity and/or surprise for passersby; exemplifies strong, imaginative design and content; considers and incorporates durable, sustainable concepts and materials; does not require electricity, audio/visual technology, water, or other ongoing resources; and meets all public safety, structural, and maintenance standards while complying with the Americans for Disabilities Act (ADA) and all applicable laws, codes, and regulations. Materials must withstand Southern Utah's variable climate (25 degrees in winter to 112 degrees in summer), and sculptures should be sturdy enough to withstand children climbing on and interacting with the art while being free of sharp edges or potentially dangerous elements.
Artists may submit a maximum of two pieces for consideration. Each submission requires three to six photos of the art piece or a detailed sketch (if accepted, a photograph will be required by February 1), a title and description (150 words or less), material/size/weight information, artist biography and photo, and a $25 entry fee. All submissions must be original creations and received online through CaFE. The program is open to all artists regardless of race, creed, gender, gender variance, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical disability. Artists must have demonstrated experience creating work of similar scope and scale. Event dates: April 6, 2024 - April 5, 2025.
