About This Call

The City of Redmond's Committee for Art in Public Places (RCAPP) invites artists and artist teams to submit proposals to install artwork in the City of Redmond's Outdoor Public Art Gallery known as "Art Around the Clock". Artists are encouraged to submit multiple art pieces. The mission of the program is to regularly introduce original art into the heart of Redmond to create a unique sense of place and enhance community identity. This is the fourth round of the program. The art installation will be marketed by the City of Redmond as artwork for sale and displayed prominently throughout the city, mostly within the city center.

The installation duration is two years. Each artist will receive a $750 stipend for installation of each art piece. The City of Redmond will underwrite costs for installation on concrete and metal pedestals designed for the program. All proposals must be able to attach to the pedestals. At the end of the installation period, the community will vote on a "People's Choice Award" that will be purchased by RCAPP as part of the city's permanent public art collection. Other art pieces may be purchased directly from the artist. The city typically displays public art in venues accommodating art up to 15 feet in height, with one plaza location accommodating art up to 25 feet.

Proposals are due by 5:00 PM on March 15, 2016. The installation deadline is July 1, 2016. Selected artists will be notified by March 30, 2016. A jury comprised of RCAPP members and city staff will evaluate proposals based on overall strength of design concept (75 points) and sustainability and durability of design (25 points). Submissions must include: statement of qualifications with biographical information and up to 3 images of previous work; at least three examples of previous experience; proposed art piece(s) with drawings, sketches, dimensions, materials, and perspectives; statement of interest; narrative/description of piece(s); and marketing language with photograph. Work sample requirements: minimum 4 images, maximum 10 images; minimum 0 videos, maximum 4 videos. Entrants may be individuals or artist teams. All artistic work must be from living artists.
