About This Call
Art Around the Clock is an outdoor public art gallery program by the City of Redmond. Art pieces must be installed on outdoor pedestals located throughout Redmond, including the downtown core. Selected artists will have their work on loan for 2 years (2019-2021) and will receive an honorarium of $750. The program aims to build a permanent art collection for the city while providing artists with marketing opportunities and creating a sense of identity and culture for the community.
Eligibility is open to individuals or artist teams internationally. A Selection Committee comprised of RCAPP members and city staff will evaluate proposals based on overall strength of design concept (75 points) and sustainability and durability of the design (25 points). Evaluation criteria include appropriateness of artwork to the program in terms of scale, form, context, and materials; appropriateness for climate and outdoor site; feasibility of installation; dependability relative to theft, vandalism, and environment; and ease of maintenance and safety.
Artists are responsible for designing, constructing, and transporting the art piece to Redmond for installation on a specified date and must be on site during installation. Selected artists must provide and maintain insurance covering personal injury, bodily injury, and property damage claims. Artists warrant material and workmanship for two years after acceptance by the City of Redmond. Submissions must include a statement of qualifications, at least 3 examples of previous work, a drawing or sketch of the proposed piece with dimensions and materials, a statement of interest, a narrative describing the piece's inspiration and meaning, and marketing language with a photograph. Proposals are due by 5:00 PM on January 10, 2019. Contact Jackie Abslag at 541-923-7763 or [email protected] for further information.
