Art Around Avon 2025

The Art Around Avon program seeks to select up to twenty-two (22) visual art pieces for installation in pre-determined outdoor spaces in early June 2025. Selected artists will receive a $900 stipend in 2025 and 2026 for a total of $1,800. Selected artwork will be on exhibition in outdoor locations for up to twenty-four (24) months, during which time artists may make their work available for sale. The Town will retain 20% of the gross sale price of any work sold during the exhibition period. The Town will produce and distribute marketing materials, including photographs of the work for publicity or study.

Work must be safe for pedestrians, of appropriate scale for street display, able to withstand high winds and substantial temperature changes, and easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment. Sculptures must be freestanding but attachable to a steel base plate or reinforced concrete pedestal (provided by the Town) through welding or anchor bolts. Installation locations include various visible outdoor areas in highly trafficked locations along main roadways, Main Street Mall, Nottingham Park, and playgrounds. Artists are responsible for all design, execution, fabrication, and transportation of work to and from the installation site. The Town will provide traffic control and assist in maneuvering and anchoring work, but artists must be prepared to assemble or disassemble their piece without Town staff assistance.

Applications must include artist contact information, a project statement describing approach and intention, special display and installation requirements, and three (3) relevant project references with contact information, project descriptions, locations, and 1-3 images per reference. Applicants may submit up to six (6) applications, with each application including 2-4 digital images of the proposed work. Eligibility is limited to artists and artist teams residing and working in Colorado who are 18 years or older with necessary documentation to work in the United States. Applicants must be able to transport work for installation on June 5, 2025, and pick up work between May 27-28, 2027. Exhibition period runs June 6, 2025, through May 28, 2027.
