Art Around Avon 2023

The Art Around Avon program seeks to select up to twenty-five (25) visual art pieces for installation in pre-determined outdoor spaces in early June 2023. Selected artists will receive a $900 stipend per piece. The selected artist's work will be on exhibition in an outdoor location for up to twenty-four (24) months, during which time the artist may make the work available for sale. The Town will retain 20% of the gross sale price of any work sold during the exhibition period. If an artist's work is sold, it will be removed after the decommission date.

Work must be safe for pedestrians, of appropriate scale for street display, able to withstand high winds and substantial temperature changes, and easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment. Sculptures must be freestanding but attachable to a steel mounting plate or reinforced concrete pedestal provided by the Town. Installation sites include various visible outdoor locations in highly trafficked areas including main roadways, Main Street Mall, Nottingham Park, and playgrounds. The Town will provide traffic control and assist in maneuvering and anchoring work to the base or platform. Artists are responsible for all design, fabrication, transportation to and from the installation site, and assembly/disassembly costs.

Applications must include up to six (6) proposals (one per piece), with 2-5 digital images per proposed work, a project statement, and special display/installation requirements. Three (3) relevant project references are required, each with contact information, project description, location, and 1-3 images. Applicants must be Colorado residents, 18 years or older, able to transport work on June 8, 2023, and able to pick up work on May 29, 2025. Exhibition period runs June 9, 2023 through May 29, 2025. Selection notification is April 27, 2023.
