About This Call
The Floyd Center for the Arts invites visual artists currently living and working in the geographical/cultural region of Appalachia to submit work for Art Appalachia: 2020, a juried exhibition. Spanning from Mississippi to New York, Appalachia encompasses 13 states and is home to a rich presence of artistic interests and abilities. The Floyd Center for the Arts, created 25 years ago by repurposing a former dairy barn in Floyd County, VA, will host this exhibition October 17 - December 3, 2020. Juror Wendy Earle, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC, will select works and discuss her selections in a gallery talk in the Hayloft Gallery. The exhibit will be available for both in-person viewing and virtual access.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years of age or older currently living or working in the Appalachian region as defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Work must be original and executed within the past two years. All fine arts and fine craft media are accepted, including painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, photography, time-based/new media, and installation. Handicrafts are not eligible. Artists may submit up to three pieces for consideration.
Entry fee is $40 (non-refundable) for up to three works. Current Floyd Center for the Arts members are eligible for a reduced rate of $35 with coupon code JAX20. Application deadline is Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notifications will be sent no later than Saturday, September 12, 2020.
