Art Ability 2019 at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital

Art Ability 2019 is an exhibition open to artists with physical, cognitive, visual, and hearing disabilities. Only work created after the onset of a disability or injury, and created within the last five years, is eligible. All works must be original and for sale; art previously exhibited in Art Ability is not eligible.

Acceptable media include painting, drawing, fine printmaking, photography, mixed media, sculpture (under 25 lbs.), jewelry, fine crafts, and functional art. Work dimensions must be between 13" and 48" including frame, with a maximum weight of 25 lbs. All flat works on paper, cardboard, or delicate surfaces must be protected with Plexiglas and framed. Unframed wrap-around canvas must be on stretcher bars no smaller than 2" wide. All wall art must be properly wired for hanging.

Artists earn 80 percent of sales during the 12-week exhibition. Unsold works are returned after the exhibit closes. More than $7,000 in prizes will be awarded, with prizes up to $1,000 per piece in each media category. Artists must provide an artist statement of no more than 125 words describing their work, inspiration, and the role art has played in living with their disability. Preliminary acceptance notifications will be sent in August 2019. Submissions are made through the CaFE website at callforentry.org. Up to six JPEG images may be submitted.
