About This Call
Art Ability is an international, juried exhibition and sale of art and fine crafts featuring work by artists with physical, cognitive, hearing, and visual disabilities. The 2012-2013 Annual Art Ability Exhibit and Sale is on display from November 3, 2012 through January 20, 2013 at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in Malvern, PA.
Eligibility is open to artists with physical, cognitive, visual, and hearing disabilities. Only work executed after the onset of disability or injury is eligible. All works must be for sale. Art previously exhibited in Art Ability is not eligible for submission. Reproduction prints will not be accepted. Artists must state their disability and provide a selling price that reflects framed artwork. Eligible media includes works on paper, works on canvas or board, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, photography, and fine crafts. Artwork may not exceed 48" overall height, and sculpture weighing more than 25 lbs will not be accepted.
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital will retain a 20% commission on all sales of exhibited work during the 11-week exhibition. Works accepted that do not sell will be returned. More than $7,000 in prizes will be awarded, with prizes of $1,000, $500, $250, $200, $150, and $50 available in several artistic categories. Judges include Alida Fish (Professor of Photography, University of the Arts), Gary Steuer (Chief Cultural Officer, City of Philadelphia, Office of the Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy), and Adelina Vlas (Assistant Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art). Artists will be notified of preliminary acceptance by August 8, 2012. Submission is via the CaFE System with no entry fee, or by mail on CD with a $20 processing fee. Once accepted, BMRH will cover shipping costs to and from the exhibition.
