About This Call
The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) and the Havana Business Improvement District (HBID) are seeking outdoor sculptures for a two-year exhibition on Havana Street in Aurora, CO. The exhibit is scheduled to open in October 2026, with installation in the first week of October 2026 and de-installation in mid-September 2028. This is a regional call for artists residing in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, and Nebraska.
Sculptures must be three-dimensional, freestanding works of any medium suitable for outdoor exhibition, able to withstand Colorado's extreme weather conditions including temperatures above 100°F and below 0°F, high winds, hail, significant snowfall, and extreme sun. Works must be between 4' and 14' in height, weigh between 100 and 4,000 pounds, contain no sharp objects or edges, and be durable with little to no maintenance required. All sculptures must be attached to a steel plate that will be bolted to a concrete base. Artists must transport, install, and de-install their own artwork, though assistance and equipment can be provided if requested.
Exhibiting artists will receive a $2,500 stipend for transportation, installation, and de-installation. Cash awards include 1st Place: $1,250, 2nd Place: $750, and 3rd Place: $500. Sculptures may be purchased from the exhibition, and Aurora's Art in Public Places Program may acquire works for the city's public art collection. Artists may submit up to five sculptures and must provide a professional resume (2 pages maximum), artist's statement with brief descriptions of each work, and two digital images of each sculpture (front and back views).
