About This Call

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County seeks to commission a visual artist to design an innovative artwork that will celebrate and honor patrons of significant new gifts to the Center. The donor recognition feature will list 125 to 150 names of donors making gifts ranging from $50,000 to several million dollars, with the design clearly reflecting the hierarchy of gift size. The estimated project budget will be determined based on design requirements and will be inclusive of all costs to design, fabricate, install and implement the art project.

Two possible locations have been identified for the donor recognition feature. The first option involves lighting or projection design for an interior lobby wall, where an artist may create a site-specific light installation that transforms the interior walls of the Ziff Ballet Opera House and/or Knight Concert Hall. The design should artistically depict donor names, enhance the lobby space, and create public recognition for significant donors. The second option involves an artistic intervention on exterior glass facades, where an artist may create a site-specific art glass installation that transforms the exterior walls. Both designs should reflect a strong aesthetic and work harmoniously with the existing architecture.

Applicants must submit 10 images and up to 3 videos. Professional visual artists demonstrating innovative, contemporary and creative approaches in addressing permanent, site-specific works are encouraged to apply. The strength of the artist's concept, design capabilities and established track record of museum/gallery exhibitions are the program's highest priorities. Finalists will be paid an honorarium of $1,000 to develop specific proposals. The project schedule includes initial advisory committee meeting in April 2016, finalist interviews in May 2016, design work beginning July 2016, and project completion by 2020. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation.
