Army Street Benches: City of Henderson

The City of Henderson is seeking 12 local artists or artist teams from the Las Vegas Valley to create bench murals on Army Street in the Water Street downtown corridor. The theme is "The Flow of Time on Water Street," depicting how downtown Henderson has changed since its incorporation in 1953. Nine murals will be completed prior to the City of Henderson's Art Festival in May 2026, and three will be completed during the festival on May 9 and 10.

Army Street is an active pedestrian corridor home to City Lights Art Gallery and local establishments. There are 12 benches total: eight benches measuring 1.5 feet high, 12 feet wide, and 1.5 feet deep (minimum 40.5 square feet to paint), and four benches measuring 1.5 feet high, 18 feet wide, and 1.5 feet deep (minimum 58.5 square feet to paint). Benches are mostly smooth concrete with some recessed triangular sections on top and sides. Artists are strongly encouraged to view the benches before applying.

Compensation is $1,250.00 for the smaller benches and $1,750.00 for the larger benches, inclusive of mural design, renderings, supplies, paint, primer, installation, equipment, time, travel, lodging, and insurance. The City will apply an anti-graffiti sealant after completion. Selected artists must complete their murals between May 1 and May 10, 2026. Eligibility is open to artists age 18 and above based in the Las Vegas Valley, including those with limited public art experience. A selection committee from the Henderson Arts Advisory Commission and City departments will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence, overall quality of the proposal, and feasibility. Applications must include a visual mock-up (2 pages maximum), written creative approach (2,000 characters), written physical approach (2,000 characters), artist CV or resume (4,000 characters), and up to 3 examples of previous mural work.
