About This Call

The City of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department is accepting proposals from artists, art organizations, and schools within the Southern California region for Armenian Genocide Remembrance Month programming. The Arts & Culture Commission is committed to developing programming that amplifies cultural voices through a lens of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). This inaugural call focuses on magnifying Armenian artists and the Armenian experience, aiming to bring visibility to the ongoing effects of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and recent crises in the region.

Proposed artwork may be visual, musical, performance-based, social, experiential, environmental, sensory, or streetscape/mural art. Projects may be one-time events or temporary installations, or a series of events or installations. Individual project budgets up to $10,000 per project will be considered, with a total allocation of $20,000 budgeted for the entire program. Submissions must include a detailed proposal description, artist statement, resume or biography, digital images or sketches in JPEG format, digital images of past work, and a detailed project budget.

For streetscape or mural art proposals, artists must provide privately-owned property, secure owner permission if applicable, obtain a sign permit, and secure design review approval. Murals shall not contain advertisements or commercial messages. For performance art proposals, artists must identify the performance location and, if on private property, provide owner permission. If sound-amplifying equipment is used, amplified sound approval must be secured. Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee based on alignment with the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Month theme (35%), proposal fit (25%), audience considerations (25%), and local preference (15%). Selected artists will be notified by email and must sign a Temporary Art Display Agreement contract.
