About This Call
Stapleton announces a public art opportunity with a commission of $300,000 for the Arc Promenade Public Art Project.
The Arc Promenade is a grand feature of the network of trails and native landscape in northern Stapleton's high prairie ecosystem. The site is located in Section 10, a distinctive landscaped area affording a dramatic view of the Front Range to the west and adjacent to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge on the north and east. Potential locations for artwork include the Arc Promenade corridors as well as adjacent areas of the Big Green and Windbreak Field. The Project Selection Committee is interested in dynamic artwork composed of multiple elements that will relate to each other and make a coherent statement about this space, attentive to the prairie environment and creating an exceptional visual experience.
Artwork should be engaging to all ages and accessible to persons with disabilities. Artwork may be interactive and attentive to activity in the area. Artwork must be constructed of sustainable materials suitable to this environment and able to withstand intense sun, snow, wind and temperature extremes characteristic of the Denver area. The artwork must be designed to be durable, require minimal and low-cost maintenance, and must not interfere with the purpose and function of this area or use of walkways and trails. Artwork must comply with rules, regulations and guidelines of the City and County of Denver applicable to this site and to Denver Parks. Power may not be available depending on sites selected, as Stapleton has adopted a Master Plan for Lighting including a "dark skies" initiative.
Applications must be submitted via www.callforentry.org by midnight MST on Monday, November 6, 2017. Each application must include a current resume for each artist and/or team member, six digital images of relevant work, and an artist's statement not to exceed 1000 characters describing the artist's/team's approach to this type of project. On November 28th, the Project Selection Committee will review application materials and images and invite three finalists to submit full proposals. Finalists will receive a design fee and travel stipend. A site visit will be scheduled in December. The Project Selection Committee will review finalist proposals and interview finalists in early February 2018. Eligibility: All applicants must be legally residing in the United States.
