About This Call
Arapahoe Community College seeks qualifications from artists or artist teams interested in creating public artwork for the Health Sciences Annex building addition and renovation project at the Littleton campus.
The project involves renovation and a small addition to an existing building, with approximately 17,000 square feet of the total 80,000 square feet impacted. The renovation will add an elevator, improve ADA compliance pathways, upgrade and expand classrooms with technology upgrades, and add a 70-seat classroom. The committee is looking for artworks that address one or more of four potential locations within the Health Innovation Center: a breakout lounge space on the northeast part of the Annex; a vestibule at the primary entrance near the existing art gallery; a lounge near multiple skills rooms and large classroom; and the secondary entrance area on the south side. Each location has wall-mounted opportunities, and three have ceiling-hung locations available. The building cannot accommodate three-dimensional, sculptural artworks. Thematically, the committee does not want artwork that literally addresses healthcare or sciences, but rather artwork that creates an experience replicating a calming healthcare environment.
The budget is $64,500, covering all costs including artist design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and project documentation. Semifinalists will be invited to prepare and present a final proposal in person and will be paid an honorarium of $1,000 for in-state semifinalists and $1,500 for out-of-state semifinalists. This call is open to regional artists from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas. Applicants must submit 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less via the CaFÉ system. There is no application fee.
