About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist located in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach Counties to design and paint a Painted Pompano fish sculpture. The pompano fish is the City's namesake and symbol of Pompano Beach identity. The completed sculpture will be displayed at Community Park Aquatic Center, 820 NE 18th Ave, Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
The artist will receive a prefabricated fish sculpture (5' tall, approximately 3' wide, constructed of foam with polyurethane coating and primer). The design theme is aquatic and community pool. The fish is modeled after the City of Pompano Beach logo and features an enlarged, stylized representation of a pompano fish jumping out of water, sitting on a 5'-6' diameter integrated base. An anti-graffiti and UV resistant coating must be applied to the finished work. The artist must provide their own workspace and has 30 days to complete the sculpture. Selected artist will be paid $1,500 upon completion and approval. The artist is responsible for pickup and delivery of the sculpture. The City will manage installation; however, the artist should be available for any touch-up work required during the exhibit.
Designs must be submitted on the provided template showing both sides (A and B) with a list of materials. Artists may submit up to three designs in separate applications. Designs will be evaluated based on design quality, artist statement, examples of previous artwork, and materials to be used. Designs must be appropriate for public display and broad-based audiences of all ages. Religious, political, or sexual designs will not be accepted. Text, words, alpha-numeric characters, corporate logos, and advertising are prohibited. Entry deadline: October 10, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants may submit up to 3 work samples (1-3 images).
