About This Call

The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is seeking a Colorado artist or team of artists for a site-specific public art commission for the Aqua Golf/Miniature Golf & Clubhouse Project at 501 W. Florida Ave. (Florida Ave. & Santa Fe Dr.), Denver, CO. The renovation of the site is underway, with construction scheduled for completion in spring 2008. The redeveloped site will include two 18-hole miniature golf courses with a southwestern-themed landscape, 29 new elevated teeing stations overlooking Overland Lake, a Clubhouse with outdoor patio, and future offices for First Tee and Youth Golf Programs.

The Project Selection Panel has identified potential public art locations: floating driving-distance markers on Overland Lake (approximately 6-feet long by 4-feet high, providing distances from 50-300 yards), the clubhouse entryway, and the patio area adjacent to the Clubhouse. Artwork may be two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or kinetic, with possible light or sound elements. All artwork must be highly durable and extremely low-maintenance to withstand Denver's severe weather conditions. The total contract award is approximately $15,000.00, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency.

Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artwork, a letter of interest (no more than 250 words), and a current résumé (no longer than two pages) through the CaFÉ website. Artists submitting kinetic or sound works must also submit a DVD or VHS tape of no more than five minutes to the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. Semi-finalists (up to 3) will receive a $300.00 honorarium to prepare and present a final proposal in person. The postmark deadline is Friday, December 7, 2007. Semi-finalists will be selected by Friday, December 14, 2007, with finalist selection on Friday, January 25, 2008, and finalist notification in early February 2008.
