About This Call
Appalachian Awakening invites artists to explore and celebrate the spirit, beauty, and resilience of Appalachia. This exhibition seeks works that reflect the region's renewal—its landscapes, people, traditions, and evolving creative voice. Works may be submitted in most forms of media including traditional media (paint, illustration, sculpture, mixed media, installations), digital and video (short film, video, animation, game art, digital illustration, graphic design, photography, 3D print), and fiber art (fiber creations, quilting, embroidery). Note: This is for a physical gallery, not digital display. Films and animations will be displayed on monitors with a maximum length of 2 minutes.
The exhibition will be displayed at Create Appalachia Kingsport Center for Art & Technology, 225 W. Center St., Suite 115, Kingsport, TN 37660. Submission deadline is February 21, 2026. Selected artists will be notified by February 23, 2026 at 9:00pm. Physical work must be dropped off in person on Thursday, February 26th (5:00pm-7:00pm) or Saturday, February 28th (10:00am-2:00pm). The exhibit opens Monday, March 2nd with an open house reception Thursday, March 5th (6:00pm-8:00pm) and closes Tuesday, May 26th. Artwork pickup is Thursday, May 28th (5:00pm-7:00pm) or Saturday, May 30th (10:00am-2:00pm).
Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 submissions. Additional sets of 1-3 works require an additional $30 fee each. 2D artworks must be delivered ready to hang with secure wires; claw tooth, cardboard, or triangle hooks are not recommended. 3D artworks and installations must include detailed instructions and reference photos. New media, sound, and video work should be submitted as .mp4 or .mp3 files. All works submitted will be for sale unless marked "not for sale" (NFS). Create Appalachia retains a 30% commission on all works sold. Payment for sold works will be made within 30 days of exhibit close. Artwork left unclaimed for more than 30 days after the last pickup date will become the property of Create Appalachia. For questions about specifications, contact [email protected].
