About This Call
Appalachia Now! An Interdisciplinary Survey of Contemporary Art in Southern Appalachia will feature emerging and established artists from the mountainous regions of North Carolina and its bordering states: northern Georgia, western South Carolina, eastern Tennessee and southern Virginia. The exhibition includes artists of all media, such as painting, sculpture, new media, dance and film. Public programs and performances will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. A full color catalogue featuring the selected works will be made available in print and online along with an online registry of all Open Call applicants.
Artists of the southern Appalachian region working in all media from the mountainous regions of North Carolina, northern Georgia, western South Carolina, eastern Tennessee and southern Virginia are eligible to apply. Artists are only required to submit one work in order to be considered for the exhibition and included in the online registry. Artists may submit 1-5 images of original works (at least 500 KB and at most 5 MB each), 1-2 original audio works, or 1-2 original video or performance works. All submissions must include a description of the work. For works requiring special installation, include instructions in the work description. All accepted works must be ready for hanging/installation and available for the duration of the exhibition. No substitutions of works will be permitted.
Jason Andrew, known for his exhibitions of interdisciplinary artistic practices, serves as Curator and Juror. The submission deadline is Saturday, April 7, 2018. All artists will be notified by email on Monday, May 14, 2018. The exhibition runs from February 1, 2019 to September 1, 2019.
