APP Hawaii Call for Entry - COVID-19

The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) Art in Public Places Program is requesting submissions from artists for artwork created in response to, or inspired by, the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on life in Hawaii. The program aims to support artists financially and promote the valuable role artists play during this time of global crisis, while documenting artists' responses to the pandemic and economic and civil unrest. Works of art acquired through this solicitation will be added to the Art in Public Places Collection and displayed in public sites throughout the State of Hawaii, including the Hawaii State Art Museum.

This call is open to Hawaii residents only. Applicants must submit a resume, an artist's written statement about the work of art created, and five (5) images of completed work through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. The application deadline is December 31, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time.

After the application deadline, SFCA staff will screen applicants for compliance with selection criteria to establish a qualified pool for consideration. Pre-qualified works will be presented to Art Advisory Committees (AAC), which will recommend works to the HSFCA Board of Commissioners for final approval. Selection criteria include quality, style and nature, significance, permanence, price, and other concerns related to the SFCA's collection and program goals. Artists selected are required to obtain a General Excise License and a certificate of vendor compliance from Hawaii Compliance Express before the purchase is awarded.
