Aperture Prize Competition

Aperture Foundation announces the First Annual International Aperture Prize, a photography competition designed to identify trends in contemporary photography and discover artists whose work the organization wishes to bring to a wider audience.

First prize is $2,500. The first-prize winner and three runners-up will be featured on Aperture's website for approximately one year and announced in Aperture's e-newsletter. All entrants will be contacted by November 1, 2007, with final decisions made by December 3, 2007.

To be eligible, entrants must be current, paid subscribers of Aperture magazine. Entry requirements include a $25 fee, fifteen images with title/caption information, a resume/CV as a Word file or PDF, and a statement of up to 250 words about your work. Submissions must come directly from artists, not from galleries or representatives. Artists may submit up to two separate portfolios of 15 images each, with a separate $25 entry fee and CaFE registration profile required for each submission. When examining entries, Aperture's editors and curatorial staff will consider whether the work is new (created in the last five years), maintains a consistent theme throughout the portfolio, demonstrates strong composition and use of color or tone, makes appropriate technical and presentation choices, and takes an innovative or unique approach to the subject matter.
