Antelopes on Parade

Antelopes on Parade invites artists from the Antelope Valley to create original artworks on fiberglass pronghorn antelope sculptures. The City is seeking applications from artists for two new sculptures to be painted and displayed in Legacy Commons and the Palmdale Playhouse. Each pronghorn antelope is life-size, measuring approximately 54 ½" H x 40" W. Selected artists will be provided with instructions to prepare the sculptures for painting.

The all-inclusive budget for this project is $1,500 for each artist. Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend for their proposal, and $1,000 for planning, paint supplies, and execution upon completion. Artists or artist teams will be required to provide low hazard insurance and obtain a current City of Palmdale business license. Community input identified two preferred themes: reflect on the region's landscapes (desert, Joshua trees, yucca trees, poppies, lake) or reflect on Palmdale's diversity (multi-cultural composition, friendly people, community). Proposed artwork must be family-friendly and cannot depict sexual conduct, sexually explicit nudity, or advertise any activity illegal under California or United States law.

Applications must include: artist's resume, 6-10 examples of previous artwork, 3 professional references, and a statement of interest. Selected artists will submit color sketches or digital images of proposed artwork to scale by May 2, 2024. The Artist Selection Panel will review submissions and make recommendations to the Public Art Commission for final approval. Painted sculptures will be delivered to artists on June 20, 2024, with installation scheduled for July 22, 2024.
