About This Call

The Art and Design Department of Fort Hays State University invites undergraduate Art and Design students to submit work for the annual Student Honors Exhibition 2023. All undergraduate students are eligible to enter recent work from the 2022-2023 academic year. Each student may enter up to four pieces of work in any medium or media. Motion graphic submissions must provide a laptop or iPad for gallery showing. There is no entry fee.

Online registration opens Monday, February 27th at 8:00 a.m. and closes Sunday, March 12th at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artwork must be brought into the gallery by Friday, March 24th at 4:00 p.m. The opening reception is Friday, March 31st from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with scholarship winners announced at 7:30 p.m. Students will be notified of acceptance by Saturday, March 19th.

Scholarships are available for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors with at least one semester of classes remaining. Graduating seniors are not eligible for scholarships but may receive an Honorable Mention Award. Awards include twenty $200 Student Honors Scholarships and three $1,000 Fields Scholarships. The exhibition will be juried by Marco Hernandez, Assistant Teaching Professor of Print Media and Foundations Coordinator at Wichita State University.

Only gallery-quality work will be accepted. Works must be framed under glass or plexiglass (paintings may have wrapped painted edges). Matted works without glass or plexiglass will not be accepted. Artwork to be traditionally hung must have a proper hanging device installed on the back. Students are responsible for getting their own work properly matted and framed. Alternative installation methods such as pinning, nailing, and magnets are available; work with your major advisor for proper professional installation procedures. Any work requiring special display or hanging must be approved by the Chair or Gallery Director per Moss-Thorns Gallery guidelines.
