About This Call
The Seattle Art Museum is accepting entries for the 37th Annual Betty Bowen Award, an annual juried award honoring a Northwest artist for their original, exceptional, and compelling work. The award is open to visual artists in all media working in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Artists of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The winner receives an unrestricted cash prize of $15,000 and a selection of their works will be shown at the Seattle Art Museum in fall 2015. Up to two Special Recognition Awards in the amount of $2,500 are often granted at the discretion of the Betty Bowen Committee. Five finalists are selected in the first round of anonymous review and invited to present their work to the committee in person in the second round, receiving an honorarium of $500 for related expenses.
Applications must include a resume, artist statement, and six images with title, date, medium, dimensions, and brief description for each work. All entries must be submitted online by 11:00 PM PST on August 1, 2015. Artists working in film or video must upload six film stills and send a disc with QuickTime files to: Betty Bowen Award/Call for Entry, c/o Modern and Contemporary Art Dept., Seattle Art Museum, 1300 1st Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101. Entry fee is $10.00. Selection is based on the compelling nature of the artist's ideas and contribution to the field, the quality and creativity of the work submitted, the artist's commitment to developing their work, and the impact the award will have on the artist's career.
