Animals

"Animals" is an in-person juried exhibition running from November 8 through December 21, 2025 at the Citrine Gallery in the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPA) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The exhibition seeks to celebrate the impact of animals on 2-D artists and their personal and professional journeys in art making. Artwork can depict personal experiences, symbolic representations, abstract interpretations, issues related to extinction, or how animals have influenced your life.

Submissions are accepted from Monday, September 29 through Monday, October 20, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. The entry fee is $25.00 for non-members and $20.00 for VAPA members (non-refundable) for up to three pieces of artwork. Any medium, style, or genre of 2-D artwork is eligible, including mixed-media and photography, but art reproductions are not accepted. All artwork must be original, family-friendly, and appropriate for the general public. Maximum size is 38" x 48" including frame, and artwork must not exceed 50 lbs. All submitted artwork must be uploaded to the submission site with one photo per piece (maximum 5 MB, 72 dpi resolution).

All works must be hand delivered (no mail-in works accepted). Artwork delivery is Sunday, November 2 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. or Monday, November 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at VAPA, 700 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. An opening reception will be held Saturday, November 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Artwork pickup is available Monday, December 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., or artists may remove work after the closing reception on Sunday, December 21. Eligible artists must be 18 or older and living in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, or the surrounding counties of Union, Cabarrus, Lancaster, York, Iredell, Lincoln, Catawba, Rowan, Stanley, and Gaston.
