About This Call

This exhibition explores a wide range of animal depictions in art, from historical representations to contemporary interpretations. Throughout history, animals have played a significant role in art across cultures—from ancient cave paintings to modern storytelling. The exhibition will examine how artists draw from past stories and mythologies while creating new narratives where characters take on animal traits and new creatures are imagined. Animals appear in fairy tales, fables, and folklore such as Aesop's Fables, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, the Wizard of Oz, and Where the Wild Things Are. Artists connect with animal characteristics including strength, agility, speed, and perception, and have long imagined mystical creatures like dragons, unicorns, and griffins.

All local, national, and international artists are welcome to submit, including both professional and amateur artists working in multiple mediums. Accepted media include photography, fabric, mixed media, paintings, and drawings in oil, acrylic, ink, graphite, pastels, and other materials. Work must be able to be hung on a wall and sizes up to 4 feet will be considered. No work requiring special installation or instructions will be accepted.

Entry fee is $35.00 with an additional $5.00 media fee. Submit 1-15 images. Notification of acceptance is November 18th, with delivery of artwork November 19th-December 2nd. The exhibition runs December 5th-21st.
